DOWNTOWN RESTAURANTS

Sam Kendall's
134 E. Carolina Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550

Bow Thai Kitchen
150 E. Carolina Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550

(picture of my beef red curry at Bow Tie Kitchen)

The food here is excellent with real flavors and fresh quality ingredients. We never had to wait to sit down when we go there. We also sometimes order our food to go. For some reason, I feel like the to go portions are bigger than when we dined in. I usually order the red curry with beef or duck drunken noodles. You're allowed to pick your type of meat or vegetables on most of the items on the menu. I also recommend trying their desserts like mango sticky rice and fried bananas ice cream!

Groucho's Deli

146 E. Carolina Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550

This franchise has existed for a long time. Located in downtown, this deli shop offers many different kind of sandwiches and salads. They put a lot of meat and everything comes with a pickle and chips. They are popular to the Coker College crowd.

The Rooster One thirty six (Formerly Midnight Rooster)
136 E Carolina Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550

This is a really great place for coffee! They have your fancy coffee drinks, great food and a nice ambiance. You'll see a lot of young people coming here, as well as families and local workers coming in for lunch and dinner. They have a separate counter for food and another counter for coffee and other drinks. See the picture of this unique seating decor below at Midnight Rooster. I really love it.

SHOPPING CENTER RESTAURANTS

Shoney's
905 S 5th St, Hartsville, SC 29550

It is all American here at Shoney's. From breakfast to dinner, you'll find a great list of southern entrees. Order from the menu or eat at the buffet. My family likes their breakfast and lunch buffets. Don't forget to get some fat back!

Another great thing about Shoney's is that they give a free burger meal to veterans on Veteran's Day every year.

Fuji Express
902 S. 5th Street, Hartsville, SC 29550

If you are looking for really good and freshly cooked Japanese hibachi, this is the place to go. They are extremely efficient. If you dine in, you get free soup and salad at a little station they have. You just get up and serve it yourself while you wait for your entree to arrive. I usually order the hibachi steak, which comes with rice and vegetables for only $7.99!

This is also one of the few restaurants that is open on Sundays!

Yogi Bear Honey Fried Chicken
514 S 5th St, Hartsville, SC 29550

With its familiar face on the box of their fried chicken, you instantly feel at home with this restaurant. Their chicken has a nice hit of honey and the batter is crunchy. I feel that this is a great alternative to KFC and very unique to Hartsville. If you have a craving for fried chicken, this is the place to go get them.

OTHER FAVORITE RESTAURANTS

Black Creek Bistro
110 W Pinewood Ave Hartsville, SC 29550

This is a fine dining restaurant that will impress any date or family member. Located in a residential neighborhood, Black Creek Bistro is hidden and only known to the locals. The food is carefully made and the service is excellent. It is also more expensive than other restaurants in town but it's well worth it! See the blog entry about our visit at Black Creek Bistro for a detailed review.

Westwood BBQ
604 W Bobo Newsom Hwy, Hartsville, SC 29550

Take out a lunch or dine in at their buffet! This local favorite is a great place for Southern BBQ. Their buffet includes sweet tea so come there on an empty stomach and fill it up with some fried chicken, mashed potatoes and other Southern favorites.

Sonic
328 N 5th St, Hartsville, SC 29550

On the West Coast, you don't see many Sonics so it is a treat to me that there's one in Hartsville. You can count on them for any night time cravings like milk shakes and burgers. Their combo meals come with tater tots and you have the option of going through the drive-thru or doing a drive-in where you park your car on one of their available slots and order when you are ready. They also have a kids play area which includes a playground, volley ball courts and even a batting cage!

La Victoria Taqueria Restaurante
1511 S. Fifth St., Hartsville, SC 29550

They have amazing authentic tacos that will make your tastebuds dance! They are only open on certain days and when they are, they can get pretty busy but it is all worth the wait! They take credit cards as well. Don't let their exterior scare you away. It's well worth the visit!

Sophia's Pizzeria
128 E College Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550

Located parallel to the main downtown area, this restaurant has good pizza as well as great lunch specials that include burgers and fries. During the weekday lunch hours, a lot of local workers come in to enjoy a meal with their coworkers. Their soups are always fresh every day and their salads are fresh cut.

Mr. B's Seafood
964 W Lydia Hwy, Hartsville, SC 29550

Even though the name of this restaurant has "seafood" in it, I've never had their seafood but I've tried other stuff. Even their buffet line doesn't have any seafood. It has the traditional southern favorites like fried chicken, green beans, baked chicken, strawberry short cake, stew and much more. And they are all amazing! You can see my plate below. We paid $9 per person for a buffet during lunch time on a Monday. They take only cash so go to the bank if you need to ahead of time.

Shug's Smokehouse Grill and Tavern
2404 Kelleytown Rd, Hartsville, SC 29550

This is probably my most favorite restaurant in Hartsville so far. It kind of reminds me of a small version of a Southern Cheesecake Factory, minus the Cheesecake. I know that doesn't make sense but they really have a lot on their menu and everything is in great portions! Importantly, it all tastes great and quality is present. Here's a picture of the brisket they prepared for my husband with collard greens below. He finished every bite.
